What’s included in a Family Fun session?

Box Craft : To Create a Replica of Bramhope Village out of Boxes.

9:30am-11:30am  £15 per family.

Pre-Session Activity

Before attending this session have a walk around Bramhope, maybe take some photos and with your family and decide on Bramhope’s key features.  You may choose to draw your own map or plan to bring with you on the day.

Introductory Discussion

At the start of the session, using your notes, we’ll make a list of Bramhope’s key features and each family will choose which building they’d like to recreate.

Activity Time

Choose you boxes, paints, glue, extra artistic materials and begin modelling.  This activity relies on communication, you will need to confer with the other families about the size and style of the buildings that you’re recreating.

Once you’ve finished your completed models it’ll be time to refer to your map or plan of Bramhope Village in order to position your creations and decide whether you have the time to create the roads and grassed areas too.

Cuppa & a Snack

A complimentary drink and snack will be available midmorning to boost the artistic flare which lies inside you!

Valentine Family Special: To Make & Consume Afternoon Tea.

2:30pm – 4:30pm.  £20 per family.

(Please bring a tablecloth and an apron each.)

Pre-Session Activity

Afternoon Tea: Master the Proper English Etiquette by taking Afternoon Tea at a local Tea-Room, make a note of the menu and learn the Do’s and Don’ts.

Introductory Discussion

Discuss your findings from your ‘Afternoon Tea research’ with the other families.

Activity Time

Wash your hands, pull on an apron and begin to create. Look at the available ingredients and recipe cards and decide what you’ll need to make first, time is limited and you might like an adult to put one of your creations into the oven in good time.

Once you’ve finished making your food it’s time to focus on the presentation.  You’ll need a well-dressed table to sit at, a well-drawn menu card and plates and cutlery to eat with.

It’s Time to eat Afternoon Tea

Enjoy eating your creations – compare what you’ve created to the Afternoon Tea that you sampled at the Tea-Room.  Remember to follow the English Etiquette of Afternoon-Tea taking.

Ball Run: To Build a Ball Run Using the Available Materials.

9:30am – 11:30am    £15 per family.

This idea came to me whilst I was watching a ‘Hubelino Marble Race Tournament’ on YouTube!

Pre-Session Activity

Begin to gather together a few ideas by watching ball and marble runs on YouTube.  Look specifically at how to decrease and increase the speed of a ball and the part that gravity has to play in this.  Note down a few ideas.  Do you like the the racing tournaments or the more intricate layouts the most?  Think how you can apply this knowledge when you’re shown the materials that you’ll be using in order to make your ball run.

Introductory Discussion

Discuss your findings with the other families.  You may choose to make an identical run as another family and then compete for speed.  Alternatively you may choose to make a taller more intricate design which again might require the joining of two family teams.

Activity Time

Choose your materials and begin creating your ball run.

Plenary

Walk around the room and have a go on everyone’s creations.

Cuppa & a Snack

A complimentary drink and snack will be available midmorning to boost the artistic flare which lies inside you!

Bridge Building: To Build the Strongest Bridge out of Spaghetti.

Pre-Session Activity

Research how bridges are constructed and what ‘shapes’ make them strong and why.

Activity Time

Look at all of the different tasks set and choose your first activity to complete.  You may choose to complete one activity or three, it depends how much time you choose to spend on each activity.

“We had a great time experimenting with the bicarbonate of soda and vinegar.  Niamh loved wearing the science overall and goggles watching all the fizzing and the bubbling.  We called it a vinegar volcano and she spent a long time studying all the bubbling under the microscope.  The glitter was an added bonus!”  Abbie
